The Cytomegalovirus IgM, sreum test helps to detct you are suffering from an infection of Cytomegalovirus. Cytomegalovirus is also known as CMV infection. The test helps to identify the fact that if the infection is from past, current or a reactivated CMV in case of receiving (prior) an organ transplant.

Symptoms associated with Cytomegalovirus infection are similar to other diseases symptoms:

Fever, sore throat, headache, weakness, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. 

Cytomegalovirus is a type of virus infection that does not show the symptoms easily.  While the virus is present in the body during infection in the form of body fluids such as blood, urine, saliva, breast milk, vaginal fluid, semen, and cerebrospinal fluid. 

It is a unique virus that is not detected easily through its symptoms. Because once anyone is infected with this virus, it stays mostly for the lifetime as one cannot find out the symptoms.

There are cases where once you are cured of this virus but has the possibility of recurrence of the virus if you have a weak immune system. 

Note: If a pregnant woman has been infected with the Cytomegalovirus, the virus will pass on to the baby as well. Hence, it can lead to issues in the growth of the baby. While infected babies are born normal, but soon after they will suffer from seizures, pneumonia, vision problems, and delayed mental development.

There is no precaution required before going for the test.

Depending on the test results, the doctor will prescribe medication and treatment. 

If the test results are positive, it indicates that you are being recently infected.

And if the test results show a low level of IgM, it indicates the existance of symptoms to be acurate with the infection.

Test Method 1: A blood sample will be collected from a vein of your arm. 

Test Method 2: It is also possible that you will be asked to submit a sample of your urine, body tissue and amniotic fluid. 

Test Report: Turn around time is 24-48 hours.

When the doctor suspects you of suffering from the cytomegalovirus, you will be prescribed to take this test.
