The Fungal Culture & Stain test helps to diganose if you are suffering from Fungal infection. The test finds the type of fungus that is casuing fungal infectin.

Symptoms vary infection can cause anywhere in the body:

Itchy skin

Red rashes

Brittle nails 

Fever

White patches can be seen around the mouth

Vaginal itching and increased vaginal discharge (called yeast infection) 

Lung infection

Blood infection

Central nervous system infection

The fungal infection is of two kinds:

Superficial fungal infection and

Systematic fungal infection.

Systematic fungal infection happens when your blood, lungs or other parts of the body are being infected. This infection is counted among serious infection that needs proper medication to get cured. 

There is a possibility of Systematic fungal infection if your immune system is weak.

The root cause of the infection is caused by soil and plants.

Superficial fungal infection happens in genital, skin and nails. It is a common infection that can be easily cured. 

The type of Superficial fungal infection include:

Athlete's foot,

Ringworm,

Vaginal yeast infection,

Scaly rashes on the skin,

Scalp and hair infection.

There is no precaution to be taken before the test.

There are two types of treatment:

Topical antifungal medications and

Oral antifungal medications.

Depending upon the type of fungal infection detected in your test, the doctor will prescribe you accordingly.

Test Method 1: Skin and nail scrapping technique is applied to collect a small sample of the infected nail or skin.

Test Method 2: A blood sample is collected from a vein of your arm.

Test Method 3: A swab technique is used to collect fluid or tissue from mouth or vagina. 

Test Methos 4: A urine sample is collected.

Test Report: The usual turn around time is 24 to 48 hours.

When your doctor suspects you of having a fungal infection, you will be advised to take this test.
